participated in Forrest Yoga's Foundation teacher
training course. Instructors of all Yoga traditions
are welcome as the skills you'll learn enhance all
teaching styles. Participants must have a regular
personal practice and be ready to move deeper
within themselves and assist students in the
discovery of the physical, emotional and spiritual
benefits of yoga.
Ana Forrest designed this program to be highly
experiential. The training includes chanting, daily
meditation, Pranayama, intensive yoga practice,
working with injuries, addressing the needs and
challenges of students, mentoring your own
practice and needs and learning the principles of
class sequencing for the setup and optimal
implementation of advanced poses. The trainees
are taught how to put into practice and teach
intermediate and advanced arm balances,
backbends, hip openers, abdominals, vinyasas,
inversions, and bound poses. Teacher trainees are
also shown how to work with people of different

Meditation & Chanting with
Ana Forrest
Meditation practice is the process of asking the
question: "What am I?" The tools of meditation are
chanting, sitting as well as questions and answers.
These tools are used to help quiet the chatter of the
mind in order to examine this question with clarity
and focus. Developing a meditation practice can
have a profound effect on your life. Instead of being
controlled by the chatter of the mind, learn to use
awareness in each moment to assess your
relationship to that moment.
For example, liken meditation to a scale. If one
puts
ten pounds on the scale it shows ten pounds. When
taken off the scale returns to zero pounds. A clear
mind works in the same way. When something
appears in front of you, you see it for what it is,
when it is gone, you let it go and return to the
moment. "When your mind is not clear, when you
take the ten pounds off the scale returns to one
pound; then you have a problem because you
cannot see clearly, or weigh accurately, so your
actions are not clear," says yoga and meditation
instructor Ana Forrest.
Each morning prior to the daily intensive yoga
practice Ana will use storytelling, chanting,
Kido (chanting and drumming) and sitting
meditation to help trainees free their minds from
their attachment to habitual patterns of thinking
and the resulting habitual patterns of action. The
freedom from habitual thinking will have an
immediate effect on your yoga and in your life. This
meditation class is aimed at helping trainees
develop a daily meditation practice and delivers a
gentle approach that demystifies Zen meditation
offering ample opportunity for questions.
Yoga Intensive & Advanced Asana with Ana Forrest
As the foundation of this course the daily
intensive
yoga practice with Ana will create a
heightened sense of physical, emotional and
spiritual awareness while challenging every muscle
and cell in your body. Through a carefully
constructed and rigorous Forrest Yoga series of
asanas, Ana will open you to amazing depths and
feelings of awareness. You will leave feeling
cleansed, refreshed and alive. The intensives are a
sanctuary where you can feel safe enough to open
up, work through issues that may arise and go
beyond your perceived limitations. You will learn
about yourself and feel what it is like to have
freedom in your own body and mind. The intensives
are sure to bring each trainee to new levels within
their yoga practice.
Each yoga intensive will become an advanced
asana
instructional period. Ana will guide the class into
advanced poses related to the day's intensive
theme, teaching and demonstrating variations,
leveling, spotting and assisting along the way. A
highly experiential session, this daily advanced
asana period is structured so that each trainee
works with others in the class in order to gain
hands on experience with spotting, assisting (to
keep your students safe as they learn the advanced
poses), variations and leveling all under the
supervision of Ana.
What you will learn:
Poses: Put into practice and teach intermediate
and
advanced arm balances, backbends, hip openers,
abdominals, vinyasas, inversions, deep forward
bends, advanced twists and bound poses. You will
first practice the poses and then will coach and spot
each other in the morning session. Afternoon
training sessions will be dedicated to improving
your teaching skills and working with the different
injuries, abilities, and challenges your students will
bring to the yoga room.
Seeing: Hone your "seeing" skills on anatomical
and
energetic levels. You will learn how to overcome
your habitual seeing - as a yoga instructor - to
better witness the whole truth of what your
students are presenting in class.
Sequencing: Go beyond basic sequencing and
delve
into the principles of teaching and healing students
with specific injuries. Create sequencing for the
setup and optimal implementation of advanced
poses. Learn to also increase strength, openness,
and intelligence in all areas of your body.
Prioritize: Learn how to address the needs and
challenges of your students more efficiently. Begin
to address the issues that are of primary
importance so that your students will yield the most
profound results from your teaching.
Interface: Explore issues that are frequently
encountered when working with intermediate and
advanced students. Learn to interact with your
student and their spirit and help them form an
alliance. Healing is a slow process that involves
time, patience and honesty for both teacher and
student. In order to address the myriad of
questions that traditionally come up, Q & A forums
are regularly scheduled throughout the week. These
intimate, safe sessions are designed so that each
trainee has the opportunity to tap into Ana's 30+
years of teaching experience for answers to some
of the tough questions, situations and scenarios
that a yoga teacher faces today. Past questions
have included: the trainees specific concerns or
problems that they encounter in teaching; their own
needs in staying inspired and inspiring; developing
skill in becoming creative and effective with
addressing their own needs and on to whatever
path the trainees' impassioned questions lead
us.
Working with Special Needs and Injuries: You
will
greatly increase your skill working with pregnancy
and injuries including back, neck, shoulder, knee,
sciatic and hamstring problems as well as post-
surgical rehabilitation. Learn to manage the injuries
you deal with on a daily basis.
Express the Wisdom of Your Spirit: By
observing
yourself, others, and receiving direct feedback, you
will tighten the circle of understanding between
your actions and their effects and become a more
effective and compelling teacher. You will also
further develop your particular gifts as a teacher to
facilitate the greatest results for you and your
students. Learn to risk being more truthful and how
to speak from the eloquence of your spirit.
Accelerate Your Practice: Through daily
intensive
yoga and meditation classes you will develop your
practice and viscerally experience the poses that
you will teach later that day. Each yoga class is
specifically designed to relate to the training
goals.
What we expect of
you:
Willingness, health and strength to go 100% for
this
event. If you don't have a daily practice, begin one
now.
To be drug free, including recreational drugs,
coffee and tobacco.
A list of poses that are problems for you to teach.
A list of problems your students have or that you
need help with.
Bring a Strap, 2 mats or 1 mat and a blanket, neti
pot and other personal props and supports (you'll
be holding people in poses, make sure your weak
places are supported).
